Principal Accountabilities


  • Managing the EU network architecture and design in order to efficiently support present product set and deliver on-time optimal solution design and builds.

  • Network planning - Efficiently manage Zayo’s existing IP/Ethernet footprint in Europe.

  • Network expansion - Implementation of new sites and upgrade of existing sites coordinating integration into the EU Backbone network.
  • Identify synergies and optimisation opportunities to simplify the network and improve service and/ or reduce cost.
  • Pro-actively manage network capacity and as required triger, manage, and deliver infrastructure upgrade projects for both backbone and peering to mantain the capability to deliver customer services.
  • Pro-actively manage network sparing planning to ensure a cost efficient lean approach capable of meeting customer SLAs.
  • Responsible for the European IP/Ethernet PoP design, planning and deployment for Router/switches, peering and customers on Zayo’s IP network and procurement.
  • Design inter and intra IP/Ethernet PoP capacity based on defined network standards
  • Create Physical layer design diagrams that include physical Intra/Inter site connectivity,  interface counts, customer and peer port assignments, rack elevation drawings
  • Create Bill of materials for IP Backbone Network hardware requirements
  • Create and maintain accurate IP backbone maps, IP PoP backplane diagrams and IP PoP rack elevations.
  • Coordinate with USA IP/Ethernet Engineering and IP/Ethernet Operations for configuration and scheduling of implementation of new POPs, backbone and peering links
  • Maintain staging procedures  standards for new systems and subcomponents to determine fitness for deployment 
  • Maintain association with Internet Exchange points in EU and attend meetings where required.
  • RIPE registry management: Maintain RIPE database object, conduct periodic IPv4/IPv6/PI Space/AS Number resource audit, attend RIPE meetings
  • Responsible for interfacing with customers on solutions designs as well as internally with Sales and Sales Engineers.


Other Responsibilities

Create capital projects to cover expenditure for;

  • Growth (customer and backbone/peering)
  • Upgrades
  • New Technology in coordination with USA counterpart
  • Performs OpEx for type-2 services supporting IP/Ethernet Production Network and out-of-band management and IP/Ethernet equipment maintenance
  • Telco (Type-2 backbone connections)
  • IP/Ethernet Colocation
  • Repair and Maintenance on IP/Ethernet Equipment
  • Account for run-rates of prior year, present level of activities and anticipated growth during budget period
  • Provide tasks to the NCC install team to load customer configurations


Key Skill and Experience Requirements

  • Experience Previous experience working in a similar position (e.g. 2nd or 3rd line technical support), or experience within an ISP/Telecoms  environment
  • Knowledge of ISP operations, Internet address and routing management
  • Network design and configuration, best practice
  • IP & Ethernet networking
  • MPLS, RSVP-LDP, VPLS configurations
  • BGP and other WAN routing protocols
  • Tunnelling protocols: IPSec, GRE, L2TP, etc
  • Knowledge of QoS technologies and NAT
  • IP Transit & Peering configurations
  • Hands on experience with Juniper, Cisco,  Alcatel-lucent
  • Degree in IT, Computer Science or Engineering and/or recognized industry certificate(s) JNCIA, JNCIS, JNCIP, CCNA, CCNP, CCIP
